The organization Voluntarios Internacionales VIMEX, AC participates in an interesting project of global scope, it is “Boosting cross-border interrelations to overcome animosity and develop human rights education” (BROADER), which is why in the past two weeks it received a group of volunteers from two Italian organizations and one from the Republic of Slovakia that participate in the project, as well as an Argentine organization and another from Austria whose representatives could not come to this meeting. The objective of the meeting in Mexico was to carry out a mid-term evaluation on the progress of the project on the issues of migration, human rights, migrants and political asylum since the BROADER project seeks to promote cross-border relations to overcome apathy and develop education in human rights in migrant population. In this way, we seek to support organizations located in countries that today go through the passage of migrants and refugees, the settlement of migrants or, as in the case of Argentina, which in the past was a destination for European migrants in the past. . As noted in the international environment, the phenomenon of migration has become more complex due to the multicausality where not only the transit of groups fleeing armed conflicts or internal civil wars occurs, but also due to religious persecution, discrimination of ethnic groups, minorities , etc., improve economic conditions, etc. For various reasons today there are countries that want to build walls on their borders. This volunteer project is being developed at a very opportune time to contribute to raising awareness in several European countries, as well as in Mexico and Central America.
BROADER encourages the exchange of good practices Finland Mobile Number List between the countries of the European Union (which is why Slovakia, Austria and Italy participate) and Latin America (Argentina and Mexico) to encourage the participation of young people and for them to be promoters of intercultural understanding. . The methodology on which the project is based is service-learning where young people and students dialogue and generate ideas among volunteers from different countries who participate in the European Voluntary Service and thus undertake awareness-raising actions for a year. Mexican volunteers are living and collaborating in Slovakia, Italy and Austria. On the other hand, a young woman from Slovakia and an Italian volunteer are now collaborating at the Casa del Migrante Tijuana. The final evaluation of the project will be carried out in Slovakia next October. During the two weeks in which the international volunteers were in our country, they had the opportunity to hold meetings with civil society organizations that work on the topics of the BRAODER project, such as the International Organization for Migration; Asylum Access Mexico; Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its Migration area and with the Mexican Volunteer Alliance, of which VIMEX is a member. Precisely with Amevol, an information session was held on the state of the art of volunteering in Mexico, where Pía Testelli Vaquero and Emilio Guerra Díaz, advisors of the association, addressed the characteristics, dimension, areas of interest and expressions of volunteering his means, thanks all the associations who allowed us to learn first-hand about the work they carry out with the migrant population and to learn specifically about the problems experienced by people who are deported, granted asylum, or who were expelled from the US to their countries of origin.
Vimex, in its interest to correspond with the international volunteers, organized various activities of tourist and gastronomic interest, such as visiting the Historical Center of CDMX, the Pyramids of Teotihuacán and Xochimilco; without missing of course that the international volunteers taste typical foods, from tacos to vegan vegetarian food from the town of San Juan Teotihuacán and its liquors made from cactus, xoconostle and prickly pears. The Italian volunteers came with the desire to meet the Mariachis, a goal that was more than fulfilled during the typical visit to the tenampa. This week, volunteers Diego Chitarrini, Ivana Hruskóva and Patrick Saltori returned to their countries of origin and expressed that they were pleased to meet and interact with “kind, friendly and smiling Mexican people in all the places we met” and shared a thank you: “Thank you Mexico for your hospitality.” *Vidal Flores Girón has extensive experience in the exchange of international volunteers.
