Annually, Monsanto, through its Foundation, holds two calls, one at the beginning and the other in the middle of the year. The purpose? Strengthen and improve the quality of life of the agricultural communities where it operates, through support for civil society organizations that have solid and impactful initiatives. To achieve this, it invites its collaborators to actively get involved in this feat and nominate projects from social organizations to participate in the call. Interested parties can send their proposals to the company's Social Responsibility area, meeting some requirements. Every project must be led by at least one employee of the company and to be considered it must be aligned with one of the following themes: Food safety Nutrition Basic needs (access to drinking water, drainage, infrastructure) Second Call for Monsanto Foundation 2017 The results of the Second Call for Monsanto Foundation 2017 were recently published and these were the two selected projects, both from the Latin America North region: Eat as a family This project proposed by Monsanto's Los Mochis site is led by the Los Mochis Food Bank, IAP in Mexico, which received support of $50,000.
The project falls into the Food Security and Nutrition category, and has the objective of improving the eating behavior of 500 mothers, achieving Asia Mobile Number Listan impact on 2,150 people; Of these, 15 percent are children under five years old and 20 percent are children five to 12 years old. How will they do it? Through the increase of vegetables in the preparation and consumption of food to improve the nutritional status of families. Likewise, it is intended to promote the importance of the habit of cooking and eating as a family. As the winner of the award, the financial support will help the organization to purchase medical equipment to perform hemoglobin and glucose measurements on the beneficiaries, in addition to acquiring a mobile kitchen equipped to improve the conditions in which the workshops are taught to women.
The prize will also allow them to buy a van, insure it and label it, to be able to move the kitchen and transport the chefs, nutritionists, students and volunteers who participate in the initiative. Fight against child malnutrition The other winning project of the Second Call for Monsanto Foundation 2017 is “Fight against child malnutrition in ten indigenous communities of Chimaltenango”, directed by the Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria Onlus (ICU) and nominated by the Monsanto site in Guatemala. This project requested an amount of $197,000 dollars, which was awarded upon winning the call. The organization carries out development projects and promotes information and education initiatives on international cooperation and solidarity. Previously, ICU had been supported by the Monsanto Foundation in 2010 and 2015, generating a positive impact on more than 2,600 people with the financing.
